To begin, I imported the entire drawing from Affinity Designer as a single PNG, which I imported into Creature.

AFFINITY DESIGNER ANIMATION TRIAL

I have used the limited trial in the past (so I’m not completely new to it), but this is the first time I’ve been able to actually export anything. Kestrel Moon (creator of Creature) and Deep Motion (the publisher) very generously gave six months’ access to Creature for a Godot game jam back in February. With that jump animation in mind, I decided it was time to give Deep Motion Creature a go.

I decided that he didn’t need legs (or arms!) because he could just jump wherever he needed to go! I didn’t quite finish the Skillshare class today, but I was happy with how my version of the ice cream character ended up. I’ve owned Affinity Designer for quite a while but haven’t spent a lot of time using it, so it was great to really get my teeth into an actual project. I really enjoyed following along with the instructions to create an ice cream cone character in Affinity Designer. All credit for the ice cream character design in this post goes to him. Today I was following along with Vector Illustration: Design a Playful Character Using Geometric Shapes (which I highly recommend by the way – go here for two months’ free access to Skillshare if you want to try it for yourself) taught by the very talented Jonathan Ball of Poked Studio.

I’ve been feeling a bit ‘stuck’ creatively lately, so I decided to try out some Skillshare classes.
